Roles & responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the CIO, the Business Intelligence (BI) Manager is responsible for the design, implementation, and continuous evolution of BI systems and data integration platforms. This includes the development of advanced reporting solutions using Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft Power BI, the orchestration of data flows via SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and Azure Service Bus, and the integration of data from various enterprise systems.

As a BI Manager, you’ll be responsible for:

Strategic Planning & Governance:

• Define BI vision and roadmap aligned with organizational goals.
• Establish data governance policies, including data quality, security, and compliance.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to prioritize use cases and ensure business alignment.

Architecture & Platform Oversight:

• Lead the design of the Microsoft Fabric architecture, including:
• OneLake setup and data lakehouse strategy.
• Integration with existing systems (ERP, CRM, PLM, etc.).
• Ensure optimal use of Fabric components: Power BI, Data Factory, Synapse and Data Activator, etc.

Data Integration & Modeling:

• Oversee data ingestion pipelines from various sources (SQL, APIs, cloud apps).
• Guide the creation of semantic models and data marts using Fabric’s Lakehouse and Warehouse capabilities.
• Ensure reusability and scalability of data models across departments.

Team Leadership & Enablement:

• Manage BI developers, data engineers, and analysts.
• Promote self-service BI through training and governance of Power BI usage.
• Foster a data-driven culture across the organization.

Performance & Optimization:

• Monitor system performance, query optimization, and cost management.
• Implement Fabric capacity planning and workspace management.
• Ensure data refresh reliability and dashboard responsiveness.

Security & Compliance:

• Define role-based access controls and workspace permissions.
• Ensure compliance with GDPR, ISO, or industry-specific regulations.
• Collaborate with IT and security teams to manage data protection.

Reporting & Insights Delivery:

• Oversee the development of dashboards, KPIs, and reports for various business units.
• Ensure data accuracy and consistency across reports.
• Drive advanced analytics initiatives (e.g., forecasting, anomaly detection).

Vendor & Stakeholder Management:

• Coordinate with Microsoft and system integrators for support and best practices.
• Communicate progress and value to executive stakeholders.
• Manage budget and licensing related to Fabric and Power BI.

Requirements:

Technical Competencies:

• Microsoft Fabric Expertise
• Deep understanding of Fabric components: OneLake, Lakehouse, Data Factory, Synapse, Power BI, Data Activator.
• Experience with dataflows, pipelines, semantic models, and Direct Lake mode.

Data Architecture & Modeling:

• Proficiency in dimensional modeling, star/snowflake schemas, and data lakehouse design.
• Strong grasp of data integration, ETL/ELT processes, and data lineage.

Power BI Mastery:

• Advanced skills in DAX, Power Query, and report/dashboard design.
• Experience with Power BI governance, deployment pipelines, and performance tuning.

Cloud & Security Knowledge:

• Familiarity with Azure services, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), and role-based access control (RBAC).
• Understanding of data privacy, compliance frameworks, and security best practices.

Analytical & Strategic Competencies:

• Business Acumen: Ability to translate business needs into data solutions and BI use cases. Understanding of KPIs, financial metrics, and operational drivers.
• Data Governance & Quality: Experience in setting up data stewardship, metadata management, and quality assurance processes.
• Project & Change Management: Skilled in agile methodologies, project planning, and stakeholder communication. Ability to manage phased rollouts, pilot programs, and user adoption strategies.

Leadership & Communication Competencies:

• Team Leadership: Ability to lead cross-functional teams: BI developers, data engineers, analysts. Experience in mentoring, performance management, and capacity planning.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Strong communication skills to align with executives, business units, and IT. Ability to evangelize BI strategy and demonstrate value realization.
• Training & Enablement: Promote self-service BI and data literacy across the organization. Develop training programs and documentation for users and developers.
