We are looking for a Control Engineer to join our Engineering team, reporting directly to the Head of Control Engineering. In this role, you will contribute to the design and development of control systems for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), supporting the full lifecycle of projects from architecture design to testing and commissioning. You will work in a dynamic and international environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful integration and performance of advanced energy storage solutions. Key Responsibilities - Design the control architecture for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in line with technical specifications and project requirements
- Develop control algorithms and support their implementation in PLC and embedded environments
- Prepare technical documentation including software specifications, hardware architecture diagrams, control flowcharts and HMI descriptions
- Collaborate with Project Execution, Project Development, R&D and Commissioning teams to ensure proper system integration
- Perform technical feasibility analyses and support system optimization and feature development
- Validate control systems through simulations, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and commissioning activities
- Support FAT, SAT and on-site commissioning phases, troubleshooting software and system issues when needed
- Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards, safety procedures and HSE requirements
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of software and control strategies based on operational data and testing results
- 3–5 years of experience in control engineering, industrial automation or similar roles
- Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, Automation or Computer Engineering
- Experience with programming languages used in automation (e.g. MATLAB, Python, C/C++, Visual Basic)
- Solid understanding of control theory, signal processing and real-time systems
- Hands-on experience with PLC development; knowledge of Siemens PLC suite is a strong plus
- Familiarity with SCADA systems, HMI development and industrial communication protocols (e.g. Modbus, Profinet, OPC, DNP3, IEC 104)
- Knowledge of energy storage technologies, renewable energy systems and battery management systems
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and use electrical CAD tools (e.g. EPLAN or equivalent)
- Experience with control system testing activities including FAT, SAT and on-site commissioning
- Basic knowledge of cybersecurity principles applied to control systems (e.g. ISA/IEC 62443)
- Good command of English (written and spoken) and Italian (written and spoken)
- Willingness to travel internationally for commissioning and testing activities
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
